“Love is not patronizing and charity isn’t about pity, it is about love. Charity and love are the same — with charity you give love, so don’t just give money but reach out your hand instead.”
― Mother Teresa
Nguyen Dinh Chieu School for the Blind
I had the most meaningful and incredible experience playing with clay with students of the Nguyen Dinh Chieu School for the Blind. Together with some other volunteers, we guided them to make a rat (in preparation for the lunar new year of the rat). They also made a cup and bowl on the wheel, which they loved given the smooth feel of wet clay texture and building something using only their hands. Without a doubt, one of the most cherished memories from my time in Vietnam.
Book street saigon free pottery workshop for kids
Together with various other volunteers, we brought clay and tools to a street festival in Book Street aimed at lesser fortunate children. Educational activities were organized by various companies and organisations for these kids who came to this festival from all over Ho Chi Minh City for the afternoon. Our team introduced creativity skills by letting them play around with clay and guiding them to create artistic objects out of this material.
Exhibition for A Cause
The Beneficiaries
I used all my learnings and experience in pottery building, glazing and firing over the last 2.5 years to organize an exhibition to show around 70 unique art pieces. The proceeds of the sale of these pieces went to the orphanage called Friends for Street Children in Ho Chi Minh City. Everything was sold out during the event which was visited by many locals and expats.
Truong Tieu Hoc THCS NGO Thoi Nhiem
Together with other volunteers we organized yearly free ceramics workshops for the underprivileged kids who attended this NGO supported school in this poor neighbourhood of Ho Chi Minh City. The workshop was an opportunity for these kids to have some fun and relaxation playing with clay and expressing their creativity in what is otherwise rather dire circumstances in which they live.
